As we settle into another new year many of us find ourselves looking for ways to improve our lives. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to get organized. With that in mind it’s fitting that January is National Get Organized Month. To celebrate we’ve got solutions to help you organize just about any nook and cranny in your home.
You’ll find the right tools to organize your kitchen, closets, living room and even the garage. Before you head out to purchase your new shelving system, cabinets, or totes here are a few ideas to help you find the perfect storage solutions to fit your needs:
Make a plan
It’s worth the time to set aside a few minutes to think about what you want to accomplish in your living space, garage, or closet. It will save you plenty of time later and soon you’ll be organized and able find what you need easily.
Look through everything tucked away in your home and sort all the “extras” into four boxes: belongs elsewhere; give away or sell; not ready to get rid of and a trash can. The Give Away or Sell items can be dropped off at the nearest charity or boxed up for your next garage sale. The Not Ready to Get Rid Of box should be dated and looked through in a few months to determine if they still should be saved.
Birds of a feather
Store like things together – in your garage keep gardening tools in one area and sports equipment in another. Grouping things together means you will always know where to put them away and where to find them the next time.
Store things based on how often they are used. In a closet keep blouses, shirts and ties where they can be easily reached, seasonal clothing, like Christmas sweaters, could be stored in a less accessible spot, like the top shelf or behind other items.
Each room of your home will require something a little different. If you are looking to rearrange your closets visit our online Closet Builder from Easy Track.
